Griffith Park Pony Rides
Good horsemanship requires a balanced combination of intellect, athletic ability, discipline, patience and compassion for the welfare of horses. TES offers the finest equine education and the best horseback riding in LA. We ensure that our students develop strong equestrian foundations through the use of safe and sound training techniques in all of our horse riding lessons, classes, and horse summer camps. We want our students to achieve their riding goals, whether simply safe and enjoyable pleasure riding, competition or horse ownership.
Riders at TES must be at least 4 years old.
TES enforces a strict weight limit of 195 pounds.
Your account must be in good standing & fully paid-up to book a lesson.
All lessons and lesson packages expire 4 weeks from date of purchase. (Unless stated otherwise as part of a special limited-time offer.)
General Gift Certificates expire 4 weeks from the date of initial use.
Gift Certificates which include an Evaluation Lesson, Tack Class/Horsemanship Class & 4 lessons expire 6 weeks from the date of initial use. (an average of 1 lesson/week)
TES enforces a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. Any student who fails to attend his/her lesson without notice is a “no show” and will be charged the full lesson price. Any cancellation made without at least 24-hour notice will be considered a “no show” and charged the full lesson price.
TES does not issue refunds. - Lesson credit only.
All students at TES must wear SEI/ATSM certified helmets whenever mounted on horseback
Proper riding attire, according to the school, must be worn whenever riding at TES.
TES students and staff promote respect and kindness toward humans and horses.
TES reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
In order to keep your children safe at all times, please do not drop them off or leave them unattended in or around the barn. Screaming and running are also prohibited. If you bring additional children you will need to have additional guardians present to ensure their safety.
In order to keep your pet & our students safe, please do not bring your dogs to TES - even if you plan on leaving them in the car.
TES is not a riding therapy center. Our facility is not equipped to accommodate handicapped or special needs riders.
TES is a riding school and just like a school we will provide a substitute teacher in the event of your instructor's absence. Lesson schedules will proceed as normal without notification to the student unless a time or day change is necessary.
In extreme weather conditions (rain, wind, heat), we offer a variety of alternative lessons including lectures, riding lessons in our parking lot or in the Equidome and trail rides. Please consult with your instructor and office staff regarding any lesson change.
In case of rain, please call before you come for your lesson or before assuming your lesson is cancelled. It may not be raining at LAEC, even if it is raining at your location. Classes are generally held, if at all possible. It is the student’s responsibility to call and cancel due to rain, if an alternative lesson may be held.
Please arrive at least thirty minutes before your lesson to tack your horse, and be prepared to spend another thirty minutes to untack after your lesson. Allow plenty of travel time for our busy Los Angeles freeways.
If an individual cannot tack or untack his/her horse, we will do our best to have a staff member or “working student” tack for you. However, tacking is a part of horsemanship and therefore a significant part of your lesson.
If we are not fully staffed, we will be unable to tack/untack for you.
If assistance is performed by a staff member or working student, a $20 fee is owed to the office.
A student’s lesson starts at its schedule time whether or not that student is tacked & to ride. If the student is still grooming/tacking at the start of his/her lesson, that becomes part of the lesson.
An Evaluation Lesson and Horsemanship Class (AKA, Tack Class) are a required introduction for all TES students.
2020 Horse Camp is better than ever!
Rated L.A.'s best horse camp!
Our winter and holiday horse camps aim to teach children (ages 6-12) about the wonderful world of horses. Through horse-related games and activities, campers learn about the care of horses, their characteristics, breeds, colors, and safe handling--both on the ground and while mounted--in a fun-filled environment. Children are supervised by trained staff and counselors and learn horsemanship skills from horses suitable for the young rider. Kids Horse Camp is designed for all levels of riders--from a child's first experience with a horse to an experienced junior rider who shows hunt seat, dressage or western.
Kids Horse Camp meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Extended care is available at an additional cost. Due to limited number of students per session, full payment is due at time of registration. There is no deadline for enrollment, however sessions will close once it is filled and it fills up quickly so be sure to sign up early. Camp will be held regardless of weather conditions. If weather does not allow for riding, other activities will be scheduled.

TES is located at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, a 72-acre horse boarding facility and showground in Burbank, California. The LAEC's large grass fields and mature oaks and pines provide a relaxing country atmosphere where students can take walks, have picnics or gather to socialize and talk about their riding lessons. A major horse show venue, the Equestrian Center provides TES students with an ongoing opportunity to observe top riders in major competitions, and to participate in the horse shows themselves.
The TES school grounds provide a safe and friendly atmosphere for horse riding students and their families. Our tack rooms, barns and riding arenas are centralized around the school office, classroom and patio, where students and parents can gather for lunch, drinks or snacks. This is also where we hold TES activities, such as birthday parties, club meetings and educational lectures.
Our school horses are housed in the "D" Barn, shown here against the magnificent Griffith Park backdrop. We have ample free parking and space for special activities such as our Annual Potluck & Playday, Halloween Costume Party, and Horse Summer Camp. TES owns two small riding arenas for beginning classes, and two large jumping and dressage arenas for intermediate and advanced riding. We also have access to the LAEC's full-sized show arenas. All arenas have weather-resistant footing and flood lights for evening classes. During the rainy season, we conduct our classes in the Equidome, the LAEC’s 150' x 300' covered show arena with seating for 3,500 people.
Please read our Release of Liability & Assumption of Risk Agreement. You must sign and agree to this before beginning horseback riding lessons in our facility.
